Playing against the Computer

How well does the computer bid and play?

You'll have no trouble understanding the computer bidding - it plays a steady but simple game of bridge and you'll normally be able to get to a good contract easily. Sometimes the computer will make a bid or play that you disagree with. That's bridge and who would have it any other way?

How do I change the computer's bidding system?

From the main menu, click the 'Change your bidding system' link. You'll see the bidding options then.

Playing a hand

Bidding

The bidding pad is shown on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. When it is your turn, simply click on the bid that you want to make.
'NB' = No Bid, 'X' = double, 'XX' = redouble.

Competition Hands

Ladder

When you select 'Ladder Hands' you will play hands that have been saved in the database. At the end of each hand you will see what other players scored with the same cards. You can check your overall results by selecting 'View Competition Results' from the main menu.

Weekly

The weekly competition is similar to the ladder, but the hands are changed every Monday to give you a fresh start.

Daily

The hands in the daily competition are change ever day. You can see the results of each hand just like the ladder and weekly competitions. Only the first 12 hands count for the overall resultsin the daily competition.

Live Game

How do I play with other people?

Start a new table - You can start a new table so that other players can join you by clicking the 'Start New Table' button (located towards the top left of the menu screen above the player and table names). You can then choose an empty seat and start playing. Until others arrive, the computer will make the bids and plays for missing players.

Join an existing table - At the top left of the menu screen there is a white box indicating any tables open for 'live' games and (in brackets) the number of players at the table. Clicking on the table name will take you to the game. Click on an empty seat to join in.

After a hand is over, are we suppose to hit the "deal" button, or does this happen automatically?

The deal doesn't start until the host of the table clicks the deal button. The host is indicated towards the top right of the screen.

How does one chat during the game?

There are two white boxes on the top right corner of the playing screen. Type your message in the bottom box and then click the enter key or the arrow to the right. Your message will be seen by others at the same table..

Is there some way to chat privately with your partner when playing online Bridge?

You can chat privately by clicking on a player's name in the box at the top left. That will open a small pop-up message box. That player will be the only one who sees the message and he or she will see your name [private]: your message.
